Types of Maps

  1. Physical Maps

    • Show natural features of the earth such as mountains, rivers, lakes, and valleys.

    • Use colors and symbols to represent physical features.

  2. Political Maps

    • Show boundaries of countries, regions, districts, and towns.

    • Highlight capitals, major cities, and important towns.

  3. Topographical Maps

    • Show detailed features of the land including relief (height), rivers, roads, and settlements.

    • Use contour lines to show elevation and shape of the land.

  4. Thematic Maps

    • Focus on a specific theme or topic, such as population, climate, vegetation, or natural resources.

    • Help in studying and analyzing specific information.

  5. Road Maps

    • Show roads, highways, railways, and important landmarks.

    • Used mainly for navigation and travel planning.

  6. Weather Maps

    • Show weather conditions like rainfall, temperature, wind speed, and pressure.

    • Used for weather forecasting.

  7. Sketch Maps

    • Simple, hand-drawn maps used to show only important features.

    • Often drawn without scale or with approximate scale.
