KENYA’S INDEPENDENCE

  • General elections were held in 1963.

  • The Kenya African National Union (KANU) won, and Jomo Kenyatta became Prime Minister.

  • Kenya gained independence from British colonial rule on 12th December 1963.

  • In 1964, Kenya became a republic, with Kenyatta as President and Oginga Odinga as Vice President.
