The 1905 Revolution
- Causes:
- Defeat in the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905): Humiliated Russia, showing weakness.
- Poor Living Conditions: High poverty, scarce food, and bad working conditions.
- Bloody Sunday: On January 22, 1905, workers marched to present grievances but were shot by Tsar’s soldiers.
- October Manifesto (1905):
- Promised democratic reforms, a Duma (Parliament), improved worker conditions, and press freedom.
- Results:
- Many died, and strikes broke out.
- Tsar created a Duma, but it had limited power.
- Failure of Revolution:
- Lack of unity and leadership among revolutionaries.
- The Tsar’s army remained loyal.
- Tsar promised reforms to calm the unrest.
